FULL MUG

Recently, my sweet sweet best friend fur-baby RussellClive began a new habit:

purposefully spilling my morning coffee mug so he can lap it up off the floor.

I do NOT need to tell you how I feel about this, right? It’s sacrilege.

Some mornings I am, naturally, more compassionate and mindful about his senior-dog behaviors. I sigh like the world is ending and silently grab the roll of paper towels.

Most mornings, however, I am overflowing with frustration and at the end of my proverbial patience string. I am less-than-silent and less-than-kind about my spilled coffee. (IT’S MY COFFFEE!)

Ladies, gentlemen, humans, (and fur-humans,) I’m here to tell you:

YOU ARE ALWAYS A FULL MUG, about to be bumped and spilled.

The question is this:

what are you filled with and what will spill out?

When you get bumped today…

➡️ are you going to throw a fit?

➡️ are you going to swerve with road rage?

➡️ are you going to yell at your kid who just won’t (for the love of god) put on his shoes?

➡️ are you going to blame the Orkin man for killing all your azaleas?

➡️ are you going to breathe mindfully, take a pause, and remind yourself that life is “life-y” and being a human is hard?

➡️ are you going to bestow understanding, patience and acceptance on your colleague even though she didn’t pull her weight on your last project?

➡️ are you going to overflow with kindness for yourself when you make a stupid mistake?

➡️ are you going to spill compassion all over yourself, simply because you are doing the best you can to BALANCE all aspects of your life and you’re still getting bumped?

This is hard stuff. But it’s the stuff we need to consider if we are going to live a full and vibrant life. ✨

My friends, one reason we practice the hard stuff (like standing balance poses) on the yoga mat is because it helps us face the hard stuff off the yoga mat.

This month, “Challenge Your Balance” with Online Classes on my At-Home Yoga Therapeutics Subscription, so you can practice spilling out the good stuff when you’re bumped.
