Brain, Pain and Yoga

Your Brain, Pain and Yoga.

In the world of pain research, the term “nociception” describes how your central nervous system, your peripheral nervous system and your brain coordinate to interpret a perceived threat. Pain itself (and chronic pain particularly) is the subjective experience you interpret from activation of these nocipception neural pathways. Nociception pathways continuously send messages to your brain regarding change in pressure, change in temperature, change in mechanical stimulation and change in tissue health throughout your entire day.

In yoga for pain management sessions, I teach a Guided Meditation called “Body Scan” which has been clinically shown to downgrade nociception pathways.
