April is “Stress Awareness” Month

STRESS.

We all know it, we all live with it, we all complain about it. There’s even a psychological field of study dedicated to it and an ENTIRE month (April) dedicated to its “awareness.”

So, what is stress, exactly?----Clinically, stress is “a brain-body response to an external stimulus that triggers your full metabolic and cognitive attention.” ---This is a physiological response that stems from a complex interplay of biological systems including neurotransmitters (your brain!), hormones (your body!) and enteric responses (your gut!). This sounds overwhelming, but GOOD NEWS: Yoga also interfaces with these three aspects of your being (your mind, body and spirit) to reduce harmful stress effects and help you calm down.
